Project goal

The Municipality of Portofino approached Twinkly Pro with the idea of using Twinkly's advanced LED technology to create a festive and visually stunning cityscape. This initiative was supported by two prestigious Belmond hotels, the Splendido and Splendido Mare, who provided the Christmas tree for the main square.

  • Our approach

The project involved installing 4,000 LEDs on the building outlines and the Christmas tree. Using Twinkly technology, we programmed the LEDs to create animations and special effects, adding a magical touch to the Portofino square. The installation process required careful planning and execution to preserve the aesthetic integrity of the historic buildings while also creating a stunning visual impact.

  • Effect

The illumination of Piazza Martiri Dell'Olivetta was a resounding success. The project transformed the square into a vibrant and enchanting festive setting. The Twinkly lights beautifully highlighted the contours of the historic buildings, adding a magical touch to the already enchanting landscape of Portofino. This installation not only enhanced the festive spirit in Portofino but also demonstrated the potential of advanced lighting technology to create unforgettable holiday experiences. The Twinkly Pro project has now become a year-round installation, operating 365 days a year.

Project Specifications

  • Controllers

The installation was made possible by the strategic placement of controllers that managed hundreds of meters of LEDs stretching across various buildings.

  • Group type

The entire installation was managed as one large object using the grouping feature in the Twinkly app: Join.

  • Mapping type

Due to the specific architecture of the city skyline and the length of the installation, it was mapped using Twinkly's multi-view technology. Buildings were scanned step by step so that the cloud could recreate an accurate, two-dimensional layout.

  • Remote control

Thanks to cloud connectivity, the client could manage the display schedule and programs from anywhere, even from another city.
